Light blue Styrofoam brand foam is a favorite of many taxidermists for carving custom fish and snake mannikins. The lightweight but tight cell construction is easy to work with. It cuts, rasps, and sands easily, yet has adequate strength for most taxidermy purposes. Also known as "blue board," this foam will dissolve if it comes in contact with solvents such as acetone, toluene, or lacquer thinner. Repairs and any gluing should be made with epoxy, superglue, hot glue or Bondo.
