Using Silk Span to Repair Fish Fins Silk Span is the ultimate fin backing material. It is a tissue-like material that easily absorbs Mod Podge® or Tuf-Fin™ and when dry, is completely transparent without any fabric weave. Repairs of holes or tears in fins are nearly invisible when made using Silk Span. Apply a coat of Mod Podge® or Tuf-Fin™ to both sides of the fin. Cut a piece of Silk Span roughly the size and shape of the fin. Press the Silk Span into the backside of the fin, working out the air pockets between the spines of the fin. Apply a sealing layer of Mod Podge® or Tuf-Fin™. Cut to shape when dry. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each fin.
