Small Mammal Tail Technique by Mike Gillis
McKenzie offers a large selection of artificial mammal tails that save time and are extremely accurate.
When using clay to fill the tails of small mammals, take a ball of clay and roll it out on a table to the proper shape and size.
Then lay it on a piece of plastic in your freezer.
When you start to mount, take the frozen clay and while holding the skin to expose the tail opening, hold the clay under the water tap or stick it in a bucket of water. This will make the clay slick.
Now quickly slide the clay in the skin.
After a few minutes, the clay will thaw and you can insert the tail wire.
