Whitetail
Doe Are An Untapped Resource
Increase your Business while Protecting the Future
of the Herd
Did you know that there are more whitetail doe killed
each year than bucks? Do you know that current management
practices are recommending that almost every state will
need to kill even more doe each year to control the
population? When your customer comes in this year to
drop off his deer, will he leave your shop with a better
appreciation of the doe as a trophy? Could you use the
increase in your business? It's up to you!
It is our guess that each of you probably average one
or two doe each year. We all know that trophy hunters
are in the woods to harvest a nice buck. However, every
serious deer hunter has been "made" or "outfoxed" by
a doe every bit as savvy as any buck. How do you get
him to consider preserving that memory and help protect
the future of the deer herd and increase your business
at the same time?
We understand that most hunters have not been made
aware of just how exciting an alert and inquisitive
doe mount can be. We also understand that each individual
taxidermist can't afford a national advertising campaign
to raise this awareness. For the first time in the history
of the industry, McKenzie will begin running ads in
national hunting magazines encouraging hunters to visit
their local taxidermist to see the exciting new ideas
that they have to offer this year. This first ad features
a doe.
What else can McKenzie do? This year we asked Dennis
Behn to develop a line of doe mannikins that would inspire
the taxidermist and excite the hunter. Dennis has responded
with the 9D Wall Pedestal Doe Series that captures "the
look" that every hunter immediately recognizes. We have
featured the new doe in our latest customer reference
poster that should prove to be an excellent sales tool
for your shop.
What can you do? Most of you will come in contact with
hundreds of hunters this fall. You can begin to promote
doe mounts by having one on display in your showroom.
How many times have you been surprised by customers
"falling in love" with something in your showroom that
you weren't even excited about. Imagine how much interest
a well mounted doe or doe and buck combo could generate.
Mike Gillis, our head staff taxidermist, tells us that
he used to mount more spike bucks that anyone in his
area. His secret? He had one mounted in the showroom.
Think of it, every hunter you come in contact with
this year will probably have seen or taken a doe while
hunting. He is probably in your shop because he appreciates
your work and values your advice. What would it mean
to your business if you were able to excite him about
a trophy that he probably hasn't considered? IT'S UP
TO YOU!
