The Speed Feather Setter Instructions

When mounting a bird in a one-legged position, it is especially important to anchor the bird securely to the base. Begin by using the largest wire possible without distorting the leg.

The Speed Feather Setter will not only reduce feather setting time but will also produce a better result than any other method. The action of the two magnets on the feathers pressing towards each other creates a solid lock. Readjustments can also be made more easily.

Speed Feather Setters can be be used over and over again. One Speed Feather Setter will do two medium size ducks.

Instructions

Unroll the Coil

Remove the coil from the package and unroll it to to get the bend out.

Laying the coil on a flat surface will help. Using a knife or scissors, cut matching desired lengths. Note: one length will go on top and on bottom with the sides facing one another. Double check yourself by seeing how the magnetize to one another before putting them on a bird.

Depending on the pose, you may find it easier to install a support wire into the form, as shown.

Apply the Top Magnet Strip

Use a clothespin on the top wing to support wire. This helps to hold one of the magnets in place until you can get the other magnet to attach.

Use Tape and Wire to Pre-curve the Strip

To get the cup in the lower half of the wing or secondary feather area, a light wire can be taped on the bottom of the underside strip and bent to the desired amount.

Readjust Feathers

To readjust any feathers, take a clothespin and clamp it on both strips to temporarily hold one end while you lift up the top strip to line up the feathers.

Once in line, let go of the strip. It will fall back into place.

Drying

The duck is now ready for drying.

The tail can be done with a pair of strips straight across, or you can use two small pairs as shown in photo.

Do not hesitate to use support wires if necessary.
