Directions for Using the Fat Vac - Waterfowl Degreasing Tool

Developed by taxidermist Bob Driver, The Fat Vac, is used for removing fat from bird skins. Designed to work with a dremel tool with a 1-inch housing cap (products 90275 or 903955). The Fat Vac is deceptively simple to use and effective for removing fat. The key to the system is a specially combed wire brush that creates a cyclone action.

Literally the fat is pulled into the unit where it is then deposited into a small plastic bag which allow quick and easy clean up.

With one hand on feather side and entire opening of "Fat Vac" on fatty area on top of hand, use forward strokes with light to moderate pressure.

Clean loose fat with light pressure as you go along. Start with light "bite", add more for tougher skinned birds.

Cutting the membrane on some birds and/or on some other areas will make de-greasing easier.

To remove the tool from your Dremel, slide the bag off, saving the o-ring, and grasp the whole "Fat Vac" with drain tube between your fingers, and slide it off. Do not pull it off by the drain tube! Clean with soap and water. "Fat Vac" can cut holes but with very little practice you will be amazed how gently this machine works.
