It's Easy to Get Great Results with Treasure Gold Wax

World Champion fish taxidermist Tom Sexton uses Gold Rub-On Metallic Wax to tip the scales on all his Largemouth Bass mounts (including his Best in the World, Best of Show Bass).

For tipping scales on fish that have been painted with Polytranspar™ lacquer or water base paints, Tom recommends using Treasure Gold Metallic Wax thinned with mineral spirits (or Brush Magic) and a small artist's brush. Wax gives the artist 100 per cent control over how each scale will appear.

To prepare for gold tipping, Tom uses an empty soda can for a palette.
Turn the can upside down so that the concave bottom of the can is utilized. Pour a small amount of mineral spirits (or Brush Magic) into the bottom of the can, dip out a small amount of "Classic" wax and apply it to the rim of the can (do not put the wax into the mineral spirits). Dip the tip of the paint brush into the mineral spirits and pat the cold wax to thin it slightly; then apply the wax to the rear edge of a scale. When the scale tipping has been completed to your satisfaction, a final coat of gloss permanently locks the wax in.
